Whitney grew up in Port Moody, BC. She played her minor hockey with Port Moody Minor Hockey, and played 2 years with the Rink Hockey Academy in Kelowna (formally known as Pursuit of Excellence). 

After playing 2 years on Team BC and attending the Canada Winter games in 2015, she received a scholarship to play at Providence College in the NCAA. Her first year there, she received the Rookie of the Year award for Hockey East- the first time a defenseman has ever won this award. She went on to reach a career high points (28) in her senior campaign, and was named a Second Team All-star for Hockey East. 

After Providence, Whitney started her Professional career playing for the Buffalo Beauts in the PHF (formally known as the NWHL). She also played in Budapest for KHM in the 2021-2022 season. She is now certified as a Personal Trainer, and her passion is to help the next generation of female hockey players reach the next level
