June 29, 2021 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) – The National Women’s Hockey League is excited to introduce 30 new players tonight as part of the 2021 NWHL Draft.

For the first time in league history the selection process will be presented on a live Twitch broadcast hosted by Katie Gaus and Erica Ayala that will feature pick announcements, analysis, player interviews, and other special guests. The Draft Show begins at 7:00 p.m. ET and is available online at twitch.tv/NWHL. Fans can also follow the picks announced across NWHL social media platforms.

The draft is open to all NCAA and U SPORTS players who have consumed all of their post-secondary athletic eligibility OR players graduating from a University or other comparable educational institute resulting in a Degree or Certification acknowledged in the United States or Canada. This marks the second straight year the NWHL Draft will include players who are collegiate graduates.

For the first time in franchise history, the Connecticut Whale are on the clock to make the first overall selection following a trade with the Buffalo Beauts in exchange for the second overall pick and a third-round pick as announced on June 16. The Beauts also acquired an additional third-round choice from the Boston Pride in exchange for a second-round pick next season. The Toronto Six hold three first-round picks and two second-round selections by virtue of Season 6 transactions with the Pride and Metropolitan Riveters. In total the Six lead the way with eight total selections, followed by the Beauts with seven, the Minnesota Whitecaps with five, the Whale and Riveters each with four, and the Pride with two.

Over five historical editions of the NWHL Draft, a total of 115 players have been selected including 71 forwards, 35 defenders, and nine goaltenders. To date, the Pride leads the way having made 27 total selections followed by the Beauts and Whale each with 25, the Riveters with 24, the Whitecaps with 10, and the Six with four.
